| Beware - just because a development allows pets, rules can change. If they do change, your existing pets should be grandfathered in, but you may be prevented from replacing your pets down the line. This caution is of particular concern for new housing areas, because developers tend to have less restrictive rules to try to sell out as quickly as possible. |
The forward-looking Acts Retirement Life Communities' Florida Retirement Communities all have reasonable pet rules. They currently have locations in Boca Raton, and elsewhere in Florida in Vero Beach and Pensacola. They also have communities in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Alabama. They feature independent living with transition to assisted living.
September 2010, 2 pets allowed , (one dog can up to 30 pounds) in a condo in the town of Palm Beach itself. So few condos on the island allow pets -- and almost none let you have one bigger than 20 pounds. Except for this beautiful 2-bedroom 1,300 square foot condo in Ibis Isle which faces the water and is a few steps from 2 pools, a park, and a path where you can walk your "kids." $299,000 (cheap for Palm Beach!) with approximately $600 per month maintenance. March, 2011, The Addison, on the ocean in Boca Raton, FL now allows pets up to 20 lbs. They are creating dog walk areas for each of the buildings, with waste disposal stations. They have a Pet Committee. Prices range from $700K - 2 Million.
January, 2011, Leisureville, a "retirement" 55+ community in Pompano Beach, Florida changed their documents to allow pets.
Carrington, at Wiles and 441 - reportedly allows dogs up to 4 lbs.
2501 Antigua Terrace, Coconut Creek, FL 33066, (Wynmoor) - reportedly allows dogs
Port Royale Apts (apartments for rent), 3355 S. Port Royale Dr, Fort Lauderdale, FL - allows pets up to 100 lbs. 954-351-0038
This ad implies that pets are allowed, but the text never says so. Neither does the web page, http://www.landmarkatdoral.com/.
These properties start at $300K. Where are the affordable places that allow pets?
The disclaimer at the bottom is not readable, even with a magnifying glass!
