Please attend events to benefit Animal Aid. They experienced recent vandalism to their facilities and they really need help. See the news story here. Someone broke into the rescue van that they finally raised the money to pay for.
Animal Aid suffered a terrible loss this morning. Apparently a homeless person went into her "new" spay/neuter van to keep warm last night and must have started a fire. It's totally demolished and the smoke went into the shelter and we think the thrift store. They are (as I'm writing this) getting the animals out.
As most of you know Tamera (Animal Aid) offers low cost spaying and neutering to the general public. We are the only shelter in Boca Raton that offers this to people. The spay and neuter van was just getting ready to go on the road to do spaying and neutering at a very low cost.
They only had liability insurance.
I don't know how much damage was in the shelter and/or thrift store, but as most of you know I too experienced a fire and smoke damage ruins everything. So I'm guessing we will need to clean up, paint and start all over.
Needless to say we need donations!!! Animal Aid, Inc., 2266 North Dixie Highway, Boca Raton, 33431. Please write on your check "Fire Fund".
Thanks, Carol, Wine and Dine with your K-9

This story - Family finds dog, and can't live without him, from the St. Petersburg Times, reveals the angelic and heroic nature of dogs. Please do all you can to encourage adoptions at your local County shelter. Here in Broward, too many are euthanized - a disgrace. If you're in Broward, please sign the Petition at: http://www.CompassionateAnimalFriendsofBroward.org.
Please circulate.

=============================================================== Foster Homes Needed for Dachsunds
In conjunction with our Miami Dachshund Meetup group, we are in the process of organizing a Miami branch of Dachshund Rescue of North America (DRNA.ORG). Dachshunds and Dachshund-mixes (excellent condo dogs!) are being given up and lost everyday in Miami where the shelters have no capacity to keep them. The single most important step needed to save these and other dogs is to develop foster homes that can provide loving, safe havens for them while their stories are told through our national website and we find them long-term homes. Can you help me in anyway get the world out? Persons who might consider fostering dogs can reach me either by e-mail -- jperkin@miamidade.gov (preferred) or by phone at 305-673-0360. Thank you.
